LOS ANGELES - Thrifty Drug Stores is expected to put the creative portion of its estimated $15-million ad account into review next month, sources have said.
Agency executives have speculated about such a review since earlier this year, when Thrifty ceo Bill Yingling left the company. Yingling hired current Thrifty creative shop Basso & Associates/Newport Beach, Calif., two years ago in a review that also saw the media billings move from ICG/L.A. to Western International Media.
Basso was a surprise latecomer to the 1991 review. At the time, competitors speculated that Basso won based on agency head Joe Basso's friendship with Yingling.
Gary Rocheleau, Thrifty senior vp/merchandising, declined comment at press time.
