Popular wisdom says the pace of modern life has made food something Americans ingest on the run rather than something they savor. For many people, that’s no doubt the case. It’s clear from a poll by Mediamark Research Inc., though, that there remains a sizable constituency of adults for whom taste trumps convenience. Moreover, lots of them regard cooking as a pleasure and not as a mere necessity.

As one indication of this, 34 percent of the respondents agreed completely with the statement, “I rarely eat frozen dinners.”
