Temerlin McClain has hired Todd Tilford as a group creative director.
Tilford reports to executive creative director Eric Mc-Clellan, who was hired by the Irving, Texas, agency in February to bulk up the IPG shop's creative muscle.
Tilford comes to Temerlin from Tilford:Norman, an image consulting group he founded last summer with designer John Norman. Though initial customers included Spyder Skiwear and Footaction, most of the Dallas shop's efforts involved consulting with other agencies.
As Tilford:Norman was being phased out in recent months, Tilford began freelancing for Temerlin. The copywriter said it was a "seamless transition" into working full-time with McClellan and his creative team.
"I saw what Eric was doing and his renewed focus on creative,"Tilford said. "I decided that he wanted to accomplish a lot of the things I wanted to accomplish myself with my own career."
McClellan said Tilford was instrumental in the agency's recent win of a branding assignment for the Rich's/Lazarus/Goldsmith's division of Federated Department Stores.
Tilford will work on the R/L/G account, in addition to those of existing clients.
Tilford has also work-ed as a copywriter at Omnicom's GSD&M in Austin, Texas, and as a creative director at The Richards Group in Dallas.
In 1994, with the backing of principal Stan Richards, Tilford and partner John Beitter formed an agency affiliate called Pyro Brand Development. Pyro was created to handle youth-oriented brands such as Dr. Martens and Converse athletic footwear.
