NEW YORK -- As the integration of WPP Group's CIA Medianetwork and The Media Edge comes together, Tom Sassos has been named chairman of Mediaedge: CIA North America, sources said.
Sassos, the former CEO of CIA Medianetwork in the U.S., will essentially be partnered with Steve Lanzano, TME's CEO, who will retain that title in the reformation of the company.
"Tom is a great guy and this is a partnership in the truest sense and I'm looking forward to working with him," Lanzano said.
Sassos began his career at BBDO as a media researcher and went on to become Planning Group Head at Ogilvy & Mather. He launched VSM Media with partners in 1988, and in 1998 the agency was bought by the UK-based Tempus Group, CIA's parent. WPP bought Tempus in November 2001 after WPP tried to fight its $630 million offer after deeming that Tempus' value changed after Sept. 11. A UK regulatory panel ruled that the purchase was valid and the deal went through without further protest on WPP's part.
The newly formed company has combined billings of nearly $20 billion.
