Even before the 1950s ended, that decade was derided as a period of conformity—from tract houses to grey flannel suits. By comparison, the ’60s accomplished the rare trick of seeming at once more virtuous (all that idealism) and more fun (all that sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll). Despite their best efforts, cultural conservatives have had little luck in undermining the prestige of the ’60s. But a new Zogby poll indicates the ’50s have made a comeback in popular esteem.
