Internet 2000, a German firm that links business clients with resellers of Internet and computer products and services, has awarded its $15 million ad account to FCB Worldwide.
FCB's Costa Mesa, Calif., office won the business following an informal review of undisclosed agencies, said Steve Cart, vp of marketing at the client, with U.S. offices in Laguna Hills, Calif.
Key for the Munich-based company was finding a Southern California agency with global capabilities, including an office or affiliate in Germany.
"We had to know they could take the branding message created by the Southern California team and maintain it in Germany, Austria, Switzerland or wherever," Cart said.
In addition to its reputation for creativity, FCB had a strong digital team and "understood the meaning of 'Internet time,' " Cart said.
TV, print and online advertising will break by March 1, he said.
Jim Harrington, general manager of FCB, said Internet 2000 is "expanding into the U.S. in a big way."
Separately, FCB officials are said to have decided on how to restructure their four Southern California offices. The agency has already combined its Santa Ana office, which handles Taco Bell field marketing, with the Costa Mesa office. Unclear is the fate of the L.A. office and Gen Y agency McElroy:FCB, acquired last summer.
