LOS ANGELES WPP Group's Cole & Weber United has won creative and media duties for oil and gas exploration and production company Devon Energy Group, the agency confirmed.
"This is a cool opportunity because Devon Energy is a huge company with a lot to say—not only about what they do, but how they do it," said Mike Doherty, president of the Seattle shop. "We're going to be mounting their first public visibility and brand campaign."
Doherty said the agency was initially referred to the client through the WPP network, and it subsequently defeated undisclosed shops in a review. Cole & Weber effectively becomes the company's first lead agency. "It shows our breadth and depth," Doherty said.
Domestic measured media spending by the Oklahoma City-based client in recent years has been less than $1 million, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
Doherty said the first work should begin to appear in January. Cole & Weber will provide an integrated campaign and corporate visibility program including print, broadcast and digital communications. A creative team under ecd Todd Grant has yet to be assigned.
