NEW YORK After 30 years with WPP Group's Ogilvy & Mather, Cotton Inc. has placed the creative portion of its estimated $20 million ad account into review, according to sources.
The New York-based industry group has issued requests for proposals which are due back by month's end, sources said. A list of semifinalists will be selected for client visits based on responses and finalists will be named shortly thereafter, sources said.
New York-based Ogilvy is defending and has been issued an automatic berth in the review's final round, sources said.
A decision is scheduled for late November.
Agencies must have an office in New York City to participate, sources said. It is not known how many shops were issued RFPs.
Select Resources International, West Hollywood, Calif., is overseeing the search, according to sources. An Ogilvy representative referred calls to the client, where executives could not be reached. Select Resources representatives were also unavailable for comment.
"The fabric of our lives" tagline has been used in Cotton Inc. commercials for more than a decade. Ogilvy is the only major agency ever to work with the client, though small shops have been given projects from time to time.
WPP's MindShare, New York, handles media buying and planning chores, which are not part of the review, sources said.
