Cavemen must have led stressful lives. Medieval peasants must have as well. It’s only in our time, though, that people obsess about stress as a defining trait of life. A periodic Harris Poll looks at “the hassles of daily life” and the degree to which they inflict stress on various demographic groups. The latest edition makes suitably stressful reading.

Of the quotidian hassles about which people were queried, “rising prices” is the one the greatest number of them reported experiencing in the past month (74 percent).
