NEW YORK Niche interest site About.com said it would debut a new broadband program devoted to electronic gadgets, as it pushes into the streaming video market.
Hosted by Brett Larson, a technology reporter on CBS Channel 2 and 1010 WINS-AM in New York, the "About Gadgets" videos will cover news and product reviews on topics like choosing a cell phone, whether to get cable or DSL, and the merits of extra digital camera features.
About.com, which The New York Times Co. bought for $410 million last February, is looking to expand its video offerings, the company said. Next month, it will debut a video channel in its health section, and in March it will launch one for home and garden enthusiasts. The site has 500 experts, who write on over 50,000 niche topics, from military history to holistic healing.
About.com said it would sell both pre-roll video ads and product placements within the videos.
