While word of mouth can be broadly important in shaping people’s behavior, some mouths are bigger than others. And for women, few mouths speak louder than those of their own mothers. A Meredith Corp./NBC Universal report issued last month (crunching polling data gathered last October) looks at this phenomenon among women age 18-64 in households with at least $20,000 in yearly income.

In many cases, women seek out their mother’s opinion — even if sometimes as a preemptive strike, since the mother is apt to opine in any event.
