As the healthcare-reform debate began, key business sectors made efforts to avoid being cast as naysayers. Some, like the pharmaceutical industry, even cut deals with the Obama administration. But they seem to be getting little credit for it. In polling by Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates, adults were asked to say (“to the best of your knowledge”) whether various groups “are supporting efforts to reform healthcare this year.” Just 30 percent said “pharmaceutical and drug companies” are doing so; even fewer, 21 percent, said “health-insurance companies” are supporting reform.
