LOS ANGELES Guy Seese has joined WPP Group's Grey in San Francisco as ecd, said Betsy Sperry, managing director, to whom he reports.

Seese, who was most recently an associate partner and creative director at Omnicom's Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, also in San Francisco, replaces Roger Bentley in Grey's top creative slot on brands such as Western region BMW, SanDisk, Symantec, Nokia business mobility group, Challenge butter and Experian.

Seese brings "as much strategic acumen as he does creative juice," said Sperry. "And, he does so in every medium: digital, branded entertainment, branded content and experiential marketing. Guy will inspire our creativity and help our clients do culturally engaging work that gets results."

Young, accomplished creative directors such as Seese and Tor Myhren, who joined Grey's New York office, represent "the future of Grey," Sperry said. Seese's decision to join Grey, after considering several digital shops, is "a tribute to the authenticity of our digital DNA," she added.

"Given the economy and our changing industry, an agency has to be absolutely committed to doing great work and staying on the front end of innovation," Sperry said. "Guy demanded -- and I agreed -- that he would have the leadership role and my complete commitment to it."

Sperry was a fan of Seese's Evian, Saturn and Motorola "Q" work. "It revolutionized the category and it's absolutely beautiful, which is the way he works," shae said.

At Goodby, Seese worked on such brands as Anheuser-Busch, Sprint and Saturn, including the virtual test drive that incorporated Google Earth. Before that, he was an ecd and partner at independent Cole & Weber, Seattle, where he worked on Ranier beer and Carlo Rossi.
