Qwest Communications has named Sonic Drive-In vet Vance “Todd” Townsend as its top marketer.
Townsend has assumed the title vp-marketing, and will oversee Qwest’s consumer marketing strategy and operations. Townsend, who joined Qwest earlier this month, was most recently the CMO of Sonic Drive-In. Townsend left Sonic in August to “pursue other interests,” according to that company.
Prior to joining Sonic, Townsend served as Yahoo!’s vp-sales and marketing for its hosting and e-commerce services group. Additionally, he held various executive marketing roles for Sprint and has supervised key accounts for Leo Burnett Worldwide, including Miller Brewing and Pillsbury.
Townsend replaces Kim Whitehead, who left the company, a Qwest rep said. Whitehead joined Qwest in 2007.
Qwest, whose lead creative agency is DraftFCB, Chicago, spent $95 million on media for the first 11 months of 2008, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
