Publicis Groupe is joining the NYC Media Lab as a corporate member in an effort led by the French company's operating units DigitasLBi, MRY, Razorfish and VivaKi.
The Lab connects companies seeking to advance new media technologies with university labs, programs and talent in New York. It was launched in 2010 by the New York City Economic Development Corp., New York University and Columbia University. Since that time, DigitasLBi and Razorfish have participated in roundtable discussions and events held by the Lab, but now as a corporate member, all Publicis Groupe agencies have the chance to participate in the Lab’s media research initiatives, covering areas like design, data science and engineering.
Publicis becomes the first agency holding company to participate in the NYC Media Lab and is the ninth corporate member, joining the ranks of AT&T, ESPN, HBO, Hearst, NBCUniversal, News Corp., Time Warner Cable and Verizon.
The team behind the Publicis membership initiative are chief technology officers Ray Velez at Razorfish and Paolo Yuvienco at DigitasLBi as well as chief marketing officer David Berkowitz at MRY and managing director Michael Wiley, VivaKi Ventures.
MRY’s Berkowitz described the potential for collaboration: “The students and faculty members participating in NYC Media Lab offer our agencies added insights, expertise, and ideas that can help us stay ahead of the constant shifts in how people use media and technology."
