Having accepted bailouts last year from the federal government, General Motors and Chrysler were regarded as corporate panhandlers by many taxpayers/consumers. And Ford, which didn’t take such help, looked highly virtuous by comparison.

A year later, though, a Rasmussen Reports survey (conducted this month) gives reason to think GM has worked its way back into the car-buying public’s good graces, though Chrysler has yet to do so (see the chart).

Overall, 13 percent of respondents said they’re very likely and another 11 percent somewhat likely to buy or lease a car in the next year.
