News Corp has acquired Storyful, a Dublin-based startup that bills itself as a social news agency, according to The Wall Street Journal and various reports.
Founded in 2008, Storyful claims to help "discover" user-generated content and then verify it. Storyful has helped media companies like ABC News, Reuters and The New York Times secure rights to and make use of content produced by citizen journalists during events such as the Arab Spring.
Storyful also offers various digital tools to help news organizations identify which content is resonating in social media and will lead to high viewership. According to the company's site, videos identified by Storyful generated 575 million views this year.
News Corp paid $25 million for the company.
