Willamette Valley Vineyards in Turner, Ore., is spearheading a program in the Northwest to recycle the corks used in wine and champagne bottles.

Whole Foods Market, the Rainforest Alliance, Western Pulp Products and Willamette’s distributors in Washington and Oregon are joining the vintner for the effort, called Cork Re-Harvest.

The 11 Whole Foods stores in the region will set up recycling boxes where customers can deposit used corks, to be picked up by the distributors when they deliver wine to those locations.
