After Lengthy Talks, Matt Weiss Joins KBS+P

After more than a year of talks, MDC Partners has hired Matt Weiss as chief of staff for its Kirshenbaum Bond Senecal + Partners unit in New York.

Weiss (pictured) joins from Interpublic Group's McCann Worldgroup, where he had been chief growth officer.

Weiss had been among the candidates MDC CEO Miles Nadal considered as chief executive of the agency, a job that went to former McCann Erickson N.Y. president Lori Senecal last August. Weiss spent 17 years at McCann in various roles; he and Senecal worked together for 10 of those years.
 
Weiss, who worked on McCann multinational clients like Johnson & Johnson, Unilever, Coca-Cola, MasterCard and Nestle, also guided two major new business wins from 2009: Nasdaq and Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express.
 
Weiss becomes a partner at KBS+P. The group includes: Kirshenbaum Bond Senecal Advertising, The Media Kitchen, interactive shop Dotglu, Lime PR + Promotions, Company C and Trend Influence. Key clients are Arby's, BMW, Berkshire Hathaway/NetJets, Cablevision, Capital One, Coca-Cola, Church's Chicken, Delta, HomeGoods, Levis and Weight Watchers.

"I was looking for a smaller, more entrepreneurial opportunity, a nimbler agency that brings everything together in through-the-line communications," Weiss said of KBS+P. "My role is to be another senior, experienced veteran to tackle any problems for clients and accelerate the delivery of results and brilliant creative for them. I'll have a lot of hands-on involvement in new business and prospecting and be involved in any type of acquisition."

Weiss confirmed his extended discussions with Nadal: "Miles now has the best of both worlds, with Lori as CEO and me as chief of staff."
 
In a statement, Senecal, who is also KBS+P president, called Weiss "a unique thought leader in the industry," adding that the agency is "thrilled" he is joining its leadership team.
