Wheel of Fortune Has its New Voice–Jim Thornton

In November, we reported that Charlie O’Donnell, the longtime Wheel of Fortune announcer, died. O’Donnell had a brief run as a New York DJ before becoming a legendary voice based in Los Angeles.

Wheel, yesterday, chose the person to succeed O’Donnell as full-time voice of the long running syndicated game show.

Jim Thornton assumes the announcer duties when Wheel starts its 29th season on September 19. Wheel remains a ratings powerhouse for WABC/Channel 7, airing each weeknight at 7:30 p.m.

Thornton is a veteran Southern California broadcaster. But, Wheel fans may recognize his sound from an extensive body of work in voice-overs, including Disney’s Monster’s Inc. and TV shows The Cleveland Show, Rugrats, and The Drew Carey Show.
