WFAN to Stream Live Talk Shows Online

This might seem like a no-brainer to others in the radio industry, but FishbowlNY has learned that popular New York sports-talk radio WFAN is set to stream its live programming online. Beginning next Tuesday (April 11) at 3:00 p.m. with its broadcast of the top-rated Mike & the Mad Dog show, the Viacom-owned station will stream the show online at wfan.com. The broadcast will only be heard via stream, as the New York Mets’ game will be broadcast on the radio and the YES television network, which carries Mike & the Mad Dog live, is not simulcasting the streamed show.

We’re told that the move comes after years of ongoing battles between station execs and ex-Viacom chief Mel Karmazin, who felt that radio itself should drive listeners and that an online stream might cannibalize its radio audience.
