Washington Times Finds Buyer Within the Unification Church

The Washington Times has found a new owner, kind of.

According to Politico, the conservative newspaper owned by the Unification Church will be sold to another entity within the organization. The parent company of the paper, News World Communications agreed to sell the Times to News World Media Development, another company with ties to the church.

The creator of the Unification Church, billionaire Rev. Sun Myung Moon started the paper nearly 30 years ago. But it has struggled recently as the Moon family cut back on its annual subsidy, which supported the paper.

Sun Myung Moon’s son Preston has reportedly taken the reins of the paper, but the company suffered large layoffs and stopped publishing on Sundays.
