The Atlantic Actually Doing Just Fine

Those 30,000 media industry types who have lost their jobs will have more time to sit at home and read magazines. Their pub of choice? Perhaps The Atlantic.

The book — which has bolstered its Web site over the past months — announced it was increasing its rate base from 400,000 to 450,000 starting with the January 2009 issue.

In a statement, publisher Jay Lauf explained the decision:

“In the middle of great political transition, economic turmoil and cultural debate, the American public is hungry for serious analysis and insight.
