Remote (out of) control: DVDs of TV shows dragging box office down?

OK. We all know theatrical box office is down by 5% for the year, as John Horn points out in today’s Los Angeles Times. Part of the reason for this, it turns out, might be found within the very conglomerates pushing TV show DVDs: A new report shows that TV DVD sales are up 21%.

To my mind, this means that we shouldn’t be so glum that box office is down by so much; we should be delighted it isn’t even deeper into the crapper than it already is.

Damn you, Lisa Kudrow! A pox on you, too, David Schwimmer! Your indefatiguable sitcom is killing the movie business!
