Quartz Launches iPhone App

Screen Shot 2016-02-11 at 10.47.25 AMQuartz has launched its first iPhone app, and it’s radically different than what you’re used to. The app is entirely made up of messages. You don’t simply read the headlines, you sort of chat with the app.

The Quartz app sends curated messages written by a dedicated team (overseen by Adam Pasick). You are also sent canned replies to those messages, like “How bad was it?” Should you choose the reply, more info on that specific item is sent to you. The Quartz messages even include gifs and emojis. If you want to dive deeper into the story, you simply click on the message and you’re taken to the full story on Quartz.

“We put aside existing notions about news apps and imagined what our journalism would be if it lived natively on your iPhone,” explained Quartz executive editor Zach Seward. “It wouldn’t be a facsimile of our website. It would be something entirely different, with original writing, new features, and a fresh interface.”
