PJ O’Rourke is joining The Daily Beast as a weekly columnist. O’Rourke’s column will be titled “Up to a Point,” and debut on January 1.
O’Rourke said he wanted to join the site because of its unpredictability:
It’s one of the more successful Internet creations, and it seems to understand how to use the medium as well as or better than anybody else that’s out there. The other nice thing about The Daily Beast is that it doesn’t have a political taint. It’s not predictable in its politics. And even though I’m pretty politically conservative, the whole idea of having to be constantly predictable on your politics is just exhausting and stupid, because you’re leaving out half of the stupid things that people do—you know, the half you agree with.
O’Rourke is a published author and the H. L. Mencken Research Fellow at the Cato Institute. His work has appeared in The Atlantic, The Weekly Standard and more.
