Pasadena Police Scanner Switch Poses Problems for Local Media

Crime reporting in Pasadena just got a whole lot tougher. The Pasadena Police Department has decided to switch from using traditional analog radios to an encrypted digital system. Police say the change was made in part due to readily available technology that can triangulate radio frequencies and allow criminals to see where police are stationed at all times. The byproduct of this change, however, is that journos will no longer have the benefit of scanning police frequencies to dig up breaking crime news.
