NYT Guild Negotiations Break Down

The 26 positions the New York Times said it’d cut from its News Service in November are not gone yet, FishbowlNY reports. The guild that represents these employees has been fighting to convince the paper not to outsource those jobs to Gainesville, Fla., where staffers are cheaper and not unionized.

The guild had offered the company a 17% wage cut for the 26 affected employees, bringing salaries down to $75,000 a year, Keith Kelly reports. It would have saved the newspaper $5 million over five years.
