NewYorker.com Sets Traffic Records

July was a good month.

July was good to The New Yorker. The magazine’s site—newyorker.com—posted an all-time high 14.6 million unique visitors (stats via Omniture) during the month; up 37 percent compared to last year. The average time spent on newyorker.com also hit a record high.

One reason for the traffic records was the upgraded paywall. No longer is it a fruitless exercise for non-subscribers to head to newyorker.com. Another reason, of course, was great content.

The most popular pieces included Kathryn Schulz’s article on the earthquake that will definitely keep us from ever moving to the Pacific Northwest and Maria Konnikova’s series on the science of sleep.
