New Appointments at <I>Newsday</I>

Newsday, the Long Island-based paper purchased by Cablevision in May, bolstered its sales side with the appointments of new executive vice president, sales and marketing Kenneth DePaola and COO/CFO Terry Jimenez. DePaola, formerly president of Tribune Media Net, will relocate to Long Island to oversee the sales staff. Jimenez had been Newsday's VP, finance/CFO and publisher of amNewYork. Before that, he had been controller at the Chicago Tribune and served as an executive at McDonalds. Long Island, NY, September 9, 2008 Today, Timothy P. Knight, CEO Newsday Media Group, announced two leadership appointments that will be pivotal forces for strategic and operational growth for the media company. Kenneth J. DePaola has been named Newsday's Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing. Terry Jimenez has been named Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. DePaola comes to Newsday with a breadth of experience from numerous executive positions in newspaper publishing: President of Tribune Media Net, Tribune's national sales organization; Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales and Marketing at the Chicago Tribune, overseeing print, niche and interactive sales; Publisher and President of Midwest Suburban Publishing; and Associate Publisher and General Manager of the Chicago Sun-Times, where he was responsible for day-to-day operations of advertising, circulation and operations divisions. His successes throughout his career have been driven by the ability to build winning strategies that place customer service at their core. This appointment is effective September 22, at which time the heads of Newsday's Sales, Circulation, Public Affairs, and Star Community Publishing divisions will report to DePaola. Jimenez, most recently Newsday Vice President, Finance/CFO and Publisher of amNewYork, held a number of executive positions before joining Newsday in 2005 as CFO. Among them: Controller for Chicago Tribune and Finance Director at the McDonalds Corporation. In these and other positions, Jimenez has earned a reputation for excellence, accountability and leadership. In 2007, his role expanded when he was named Publisher of amNewYork where his vision and direction were key to the free NYC dailyâ€™s ongoing success. Effective immediately, each of the heads of Newsdayâ€™s Operations, Transportation, Information Systems, Engineering Services and Human Resources departments will report in to Jimenez, and he will continue oversight of amNewYork and Newsday's financial operations. As part of these changes, Tim Martin has been appointed Vice President of HR & Labor Relations. Martin was previously department director.
