National Geographic Group Publisher Out

The “very successful and well-liked” SVP and group publisher at National Geographic, Steve Giannetti, was let go today in what National Geographic Society is calling a cost-cutting move, minonline reports.

Giannetti was responsible for the advertising sales of all of the Society’s magazines, including National Geographic Adventure, National Geographic Green Guide, National Geographic Kids, National Geographic Traveler, and of course National Geographic.

He joined NG from Prevention in 2000, and, minonline says, turned National Geographic “into a brand, while keeping its 121-year reputation for journalistic excellence intact.”
