Twitter has launched a great site — first-tweet.com — that will embarrass any user. Naturally we thought this would be a great opportunity to make fun of some media elite.
First-tweet is self-explanatory — it allows you to see any public users’ first tweet. Most of them are boring, but some — like the ones below — are worth pointing out. Oh, and in case you’re wondering — your FishbowlNY editors’ first tweets were fantastic.
First Tweets from Media Mavens
Rupert Murdoch was still grappling with basic English when he sent his first tweet.
Jill Abramson, executive editor of The New York Times, promised “more,” and then tweeted a total of 28 times. She hasn’t tweeted since 2012.
Raise your hand if you’re surprised the first tweet from Nick Denton was grumpy. Firing people is fun!
While Denton was being pissy, Oprah just needed to chill the f*ck out.
We think Larry King meant “pastime,” but hey, maybe he was just drunk?
Martha Stewart pointed out the obvious. Keep in mind that Stewart’s Twitter game hasn’t improved much since this.
The Times’ David Carr seemed to get Twitter right away — he desperately tried to make something terrible sound interesting.
BuzzFeed’s Jonah Peretti with the whitest tweet of 2007.
And last but not least, Michael Bloomberg’s first tweet was about…. Michael Bloomberg.
