Legendary East Village Journalist Bar To Close?
Sad news from East Village dive bar Mona’s. The New York Post is reporting that the bar, along with sister bar Sophie’s, is up for sale. The two spots will go on the market after Christmas. No word on potential owners or anything of the sort.
So why did news of the sale of an obscure Avenue B drinking spot make the New York Post? Simple: Mona’s is one of New York’s great journalist bars. It’s been around from the seventies and has always attracted writers, especially freelance mag types and Posties, like flies to wallpaper.
