Kevin Roderick Vs. Eric Longabardi: Two People You Don't Want to See in a Bikini Mud Wrestling Match

We're not sure what bloggers Kevin Roderick and Eric Longabardi have against each other, but we know they won't be sharing a toothbrush any time soon. Longabardi, over at ERSNews.com, reports that K-Rod is grossly exaggerating his claims to two staff-awarded L.A. Times Pulitzers. For his part, L.A. Observed's Roderick periodically dismisses the longtime journo as a guy with a grudge. Seeing how Mike Phelps is momentarily not on television right now we thought we'd check in with these two L.A. blogger types and find out, you know, what gives. First we asked Roderick to comment on ERS's piece: Thanks for asking. Hadn't seen that. Wow, Eric Longabardi really holds a grudge. He's been mad for a year that I don't link to his blog -- I've told him privately, in response to numerous beseeching (and insulting) emails, that I don't trust his reporting. This is another example of why. Those two Pulitzers were awarded to the Metro staff -- meaning all the reporters, photogs and editors who worked directly on the massive coverage of the riots and the earthquake. I was an assistant Metro editor, involved hands-on in the coverage of both stories. I've not claimed any more or less. I've never claimed to have "won" a Pulitzer myself, I just say what's true -- that I shared in two staff prizes as an editor. No one at the Times has ever questioned it, only a dishonest blogger with a checkered reputation and an ugly personal grievance. For that matter, the Senior Editor who ran Metro coverage of both stories is my current boss and available to dismiss Longabardi's uninformed rantings as hooey. The plaques, or paperweights or trophies or whatever you want to call the pieces of plastic the paper issued us, are sitting at home gathering dust somewhere. Is this just some kind of grudge? We asked Longabardi, who responded: Honestly, in all seriousness, I don't respond to personal attacks from the subjects of investigative stories/pieces I'm involved in as a professional journalist. No pissing match on this end -- just another good investigative story from ERSNews. The story speaks for itself and ERSNew's reporting speaks for itself. FYI -- the story is bylined ERSNews -- not me alone.
