Judge Slaps Some Sense Into The Record Companies

In 2008, Daniel Dove was found guilty of criminal copyright infringement for supplying and distributing copyrighted works via internet piracy site EliteTorrents.org. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and a $20,000 fine. Not anyone’s idea of a good time. But the media companies were out for blood. Lionsgate Entertainment and RIAA both requested the court penalize Dove for each individual file downloaded from his website. Their logic was that each download represented lost sales for the companies.
