As first reported by Joe Pompeo, it happened without warning over the weekend. After New York Daily News real estate editor/reporter Jason Sheftell failed to show up at a scheduled family gathering, a relative asked a close friend of the journalist to check up on him at his West Village apartment. There, the Sheftell was found unresponsive and later confirmed dead.
In the NYDN obituary penned by Edgar Sandoval and Corky Siemaskzo, the paper’s editor-in-chief explains why this has hit the ranks so hard:
“He had an enthusiasm and a zest for life that was infectious,” Colin Myler said. “He was probably the most popular guy in the newsroom – everybody loved him because he was always there when you needed him.”
Sheftell’s “dedication to his role as a real estate reporter was legendary,” Myler added.
FishbowlNY would like to offer its sincerest condolences to family, friends and professional colleagues of Sheftell, who had been with the Daily News since March 2007.
