Exclusive: Former Black Panther Geronimo Pratt Passes Away at 63 in Africa, Possibly of Malaria

Onetime Los Angeles Black Panther Geronimo Pratt, who spent 27 years in jail after being falsely convicted of murder, died recently in Tanzania. Sources who knew Pratt tell us he may have fallen victim to Malaria–although that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Filmmaker Gregory Everett was one of–if not the last–journalist to interview Pratt, which he did for his wonderful film 41st and Central: The Untold Story of the LA Black Panthers. Above, Pratt describes the first time he met LA Black Panther leader Bunchy Carter–who was later famously murdered in a shootout on the UCLA campus in 1969.
