Kevin Clash, the voice of the lovable red Sesame Street character Elmo, has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy. Clash — who has taken a leave of absence from the show — denies the allegations, telling TMZ that he did have a relationship with his accuser, but that it only started after the man was an adult.
Reps for Sesame Street have met with the accuser, and are standing by Clash. “Kevin insists that these allegations are false and defamatory and he has taken actions to protect his reputation,” they said in a statement. “We have granted him a leave of absence to do so.”
The accuser has hired Andreozzi and Associates — the same lawyers used by one of the victims in the Jerry Sandusky case — to represent him. In a letter to Sesame Street, Andreozzi accused the company of “attempting to discredit the victim in order to protect its employee and the image of one of its most valuable characters.”
