Droog in Vegas? You can bet on it. On Wednesday, the Dutch design collective will unveil its retail space in the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas (pictured), the Strip’s newest mega-resort casino. The interior of the 2,500-square-foot Droog store was designed by Marcel Schmalgemeijer, who made a splash stateside with the pop-up shop he created for last year’s Pioneers of Change festival in New York. Shoppers at the Vegas store will be able to delight in the iconic Droog collection as well as pieces by other brands selected by Droog. “One sees a totally different type of design in Las Vegas,” says Droog co-founder and director Renny Ramakers. “I believe the audience is ready for a new approach, one that establishes new borders between the design and the non-design world.” Expect an active program of store projects and events, including collaborations with other local stores and brands. Droog’s neighbors at the Cosmopolitan will include British brand AllSaints, CRSVR Sneaker Boutique, historical eyewear purveyor RetroSpecs & Co, and a rotating line-up of contemporary art. The 2,995-room resort has teamed with the Art Production Fund to commission original murals by Shepard Fairey, Retna, Kenny Scharf, and Shinique Smith. The Cosmopolitan is also planning to use its 65-foot marquee to showcase digital art, including new LED works by Leo Villareal and loaned video art pieces by artists such as TJ Wilcox and Yoko Ono.
