The Alliance for Audited Media just released its data for the second half of 2012 and all signs point to digital. According to the report — which gathers data on 402 magazines — digital subscriptions more than doubled in the last six months of last year, compared with 2011. In the second half of 2011, magazines reported only 3.2 million digital copies sold. Last year that number jumped to 7.9 million.
Who’s leading the digitized pack? Game Informer, and it’s not even close. The monthly, which is published by GameStop Corp., is crushing competitors with 2.3 million digital subscribers. Maxim is the runner-up and it only has 259,529. Following Maxim is Cosmo (254,751) and National Geographic (160,077).
While digital subscriptions are enjoying their moment, overall things are bit more gloomy. Total circulation decreased by .03 percent, and single issue sales dropped by eight percent.
