RIP: Central New York Newsman Bill Carey

ESPN's Mike Tirico says Carey was 'as good a reporter and journalist as I have ever worked with.'

After a valiant two-year battle with lung cancer, Bill Carey, a senior reporter with Syracuse’s Time Warner Cable News, passed away Friday night in New York. He was 61.

Among the many current and former colleagues paying tribute to the Central New York industry titan, who also worked over the years for 62-WHEN, WTVH-5 and WSYR 570 AM, is Ron Lombard, news director for Time Warner Cable News, previously known as News 10 Now. From that obituary:

One look at our walls here will tell you what Bill has meant for this station in terms of our journalistic credibility with awards from Syracuse Press Club, state Associated Press, regional and national Edward R.
