Wash Post Publisher Katharine Weymouth Announces Newsroom Move to One Franklin Square
Washington Post Publisher Katharine Weymouth announced in a memo to staff the paper’s relocation to One Franklin Square. Slated for 2016, the new building is said to be “modern” and “light-filled.”

After conducting an extensive search, I am happy to share that we have selected a modern, light-filled building for our new headquarters that best meets all of our objectives: the centrally-located One Franklin Square at 1301 K Street NW.
We plan to move in 2016 and will occupy the majority of the floors in the West Tower of the building, which is just one block from the McPherson Square Metro and four blocks from Metro Center. The building will be a more efficient and collaborative space, which will ultimately help us better serve our customers.
I’m sure you will have questions about the space; please know that we are early in the design process and will not necessarily be able to answer them all now, but hope to have more to share in our town hall scheduled for July 9. If you would like to see the official press release, it is below.

The Washington Post Finalizes Selection of New Headquarters
Lease for One Franklin Square in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON—May 23, 2014—The Washington Post today announced it has chosen developer Hines’ One Franklin Square at 1301 K Street NW for its new headquarters.
The Post has signed a long-term lease and will occupy the majority of the West Tower of the property. The Post expects to move to One Franklin Square in 2016.

One Franklin Square’s distinctive design and prominent location on Franklin Square make it one of Washington’s most identifiable office buildings. Designed by Hartman & Cox and completed in 1990, One Franklin Square is a 12-story, 625,644-square-foot structure located five blocks northeast of the White House. The property is adjacent to three of Washington’s major thoroughfares (K Street, 13th Street and 14th Streets), allowing easy access to the building from Maryland and Virginia. The building is also one block from the McPherson Square Metrorail Station and four blocks from Metro Center, the hub of the city’s mass transit system. Hines acquired the property in 1996 and has served as property manager since acquisition.
