USA Today Cuts 26 from Newsroom

Earlier today, USA Today sent a memo to staff addressing the immediate cuts of 26 editorial positions. FishbowlDC confirmed the layoffs with USA Today but representatives for the paper declined to comment or offer any additional detail on the decision.

In addition, Gannett Co., the paper’s parent company announced a mandatory one-week furlough for most employees during the first quarter. President of Gannett Community Publishing Robert Dickey addressed the news in an email, saying:

“No one on the Gannett management committee makes these decisions lightly, and we understand and appreciate the difficulties furloughs have placed on many of you and your families.
