Standing Committee of Correspondents Announced

CQ’s Susan Ferrechio, AP’s Andy Taylor and the NYT’s Carl Hulse have been named new members on the congressional press galleries’ five-member Standing Committee of Correspondents for the 110th Congress. They join current chairman Bill Walsh (Newhouse) and Tom Ferraro (Reuters).

Although the technical job of these members is to handle “issues including gallery procedures, accreditation of correspondents and press access throughout the Capitol complex” (to quote the CQ announcement for Ferrechio), the real reason why media organizations jockey to get their peeps on the committee is simple: The committee will play a big role in determining work space at the 2008 National Conventions.
