Politico is boasting the years that Anne Cronin, a new Deputy Managing Editor, has worked at the NYT. It’s 25. She will work “in concert with” Bill Nichols, says an internal memo, to manage the print edition. Writes Editor-in-Chief John Harris, “During her years at the Times, she was a graphics editor for the newsroom, a story editor at The Week in Review, a News Desk editor and a features editor for the Metro staff.” She left the NYT in 2006 to do a myriad of jobs including freelance editing for Lincoln Center’s website.

She begins today.
See the memo…
A number of editors are already aware of this piece of good news, but we wanted to alert the staff as a whole – Anne Cronin, a highly regarded editor at the New York Times for 25 years, joins us today as deputy Managing Editor.
Anne’s primary responsibility will be managing the print edition, in concert with Bill Nichols, and she brings impeccable credentials. During her years at the Times, she was a graphics editor for the newsroom, a story editor at The Week in Review, a News Desk editor and a features editor for the Metro staff.
As the sole editor working on Metro the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, she launched coverage of the attacks with more than three dozen reporters and assigned the main stories. She then became Ground Zero editor, heading up the Times’ coverage of the cleanup and the development of the World Trade Center site.
Anne left the Times in 2006 to become a web and video editor and her more recent experience will help her assist us in building sturdier bridges between our print edition and the other platforms POLITICO operates on. She was Managing Editor of a special Web magazine, Insight America, created by Magnum Photos to follow the 2008 election and has edited a series of short films for Lincoln Center’s web site and archive.
Anne will be playing a key leadership role in everything we do at POLITICO, but we are particularly excited about the visual expertise and skills she adds to a staff that already features the superb work being done by Sarah Bell and the design staff and Mike Schwartz and the best photography staff on Capitol Hill. Anne also will be central to the effort to make sure lines of communication are always open between the main site and PRO editors and reporters; this weekend’s steady run of web ledes provided by PRO is just the latest example of the possibilities of our enlarged and strengthened newsroom.
Anne is a terrific addition to our leadership team; please make her welcome as she gets started today.
