National Journal Editor-in-Chief Tim Grieve is developing a real talent for offering compliments. And today he has promotions to announce. In a morning memo, he delivered the news that Kristin Roberts will be Managing Editor, Alissa Swango will be Director of Digital News Operations and Sarah Micheli will be Director of Digital Engagement.
Grieve says they’re prepping to “climb to even greater heights.”
See the internal memo…We’ve enjoyed tremendous success over the last few months — launching a fabulous new website, producing a lot of high-impact stories, and setting all-time traffic records for National Journal.
Now, as we prepare to climb to even greater heights, I want to tell you about new roles for some of the folks who’ve gotten us this far.
Kristin Roberts will be moving into the role of Managing Editor, with broad responsibility for the journalism across all of our platforms. From my first days here, I’ve been totally blown away by Kristin’s talents. She’s a journalist with a remarkably clear-eyed view of where we need to go and a phenomenal drive for getting us there – from the biggest questions of mission to the specifics of individual pieces. She’s also one hell of a story editor. Kristin and I see eye-to-eye on the road ahead, and I’m thrilled to have her as a partner in this work.
Alissa Swango will become the Director of Digital News Operations. Alissa worked tirelessly with Jess Perry’s team to make sure every corner of our new site rocks – and she did it flawlessly, with her usual amazing good cheer. Now that that the site’s up and running, Alissa will take on more responsibilities: newsroom logistics and staffing, new product launches, editorial-side CMS work and editorial workflow and partnerships. She’ll also serve as the editorial liaison with Membership and NJ Live.
And Sarah Micheli, whose social-media efforts have been absolutely key to our traffic growth, will become the Director of Digital Engagement. In her new role, Sarah will handle all things traffic: continuing to manage our social media, SEO and aggregation efforts as well as developing social and site-engagement partnerships. She’ll also serve as the editorial liaison to the sales team.
These are big moves for three tremendously talented people. Please join me in congratulating them.
