A CNN release announced, “Throughout November, CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer led The Situation Room to become the highest-rated broadcast in its entire three-hour time slot among cable news competition in the 25-54 demographic. According to Nielsen data, more viewers in the key demo turned to Blitzer and The Situation Room at 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. (ET) than to any cable news program on Fox News or MSNBC during those hours. Viewers who turned into The Situation Room had a front row seat to a variety of coverage, from the presidential election to breaking news.”

Bloomberg reports, “U.S. newspapers’ online advertising sales fell 3 percent to $749.8 million in the third quarter from a year earlier, the second consecutive drop, according to the Newspaper Association of America.”
B&C reports, “Save for a few ongoing races, tallies for political ad spending in 2008 have been finalized: Between $2.5 billion and $2.7 billion were spent on political ads this election season, according to figures from ad measurement company TNS Media Intelligence. Television took the lion’s share, with $2.2 billion.”

Political Wire gives us a peak at President-elect Obama’s “visit with the press at the back of his plane.”
Politico reports that Bill Richardson “was paid to advise and sit on the board of Chartwell Partners, an investment firm owned by longtime friend A. Jerrold ‘Jerry’ Perenchio, who was Univision’s controlling shareholder and a huge donor to mostly conservative political causes, including the conservative 527 group Progress for America, to which Chartwell gave more than $6 million in the last five years. In 2003, Richardson went to bat for Univision’s $3.5 billion purchase of Hispanic Broadcasting Corp. Top Democrats â€” including Sens. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts and Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, as well as then-Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota — raised monopoly concerns. But Richardson, who is Hispanic, penned a letter to Daschle and House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California to ‘wholeheartedly support’ the merger and attest to ‘Jerry Perenchio’s personal commitment to the Hispanic community.’ Perenchio, who is not Hispanic, and entities he controlled gave more than $200,000 in contributions to Richardson’s campaigns since 2001, though Perenchio was a national finance co-chairman for the campaign of Obama’s Republican rival, John McCain.”
