ABC News Asking Center for Public Integrity to Share Pulitzer Prize (TVNewser)
ABC News is calling on the Center for Public Integrity to share its Pulitzer Prize for investigative journalism, awarded to CPI’s Chris Hamby, taking issue with CPI’s Pulitzer submission that depicts ABC News as a minor partner in a year-long coal-mining industry investigation instead of equal partners. HuffPost Network president Ben Sherwood sent a four-page letter to CPI’s executive director Bill Buzenberg affirming that ABC News was CPI’s partner in the investigation. He argued that reporters Brian Ross and Matthew Mosk made “significant contributions” without which CPI would not have won the Pulitzer. He added that while the prizes are only awarded to print organizations, he hoped the Pulitzer committee would recognize Ross and Mosk. Mediaite In the letter, Sherwood said Buzenberg “omitted the names of ABC News reporters and sought to parse and diminish their contributions, even though their bylines appropriately appear on four of the eight articles submitted by the Center to the committee.” Poynter In response, Buzenberg provided a point-by-point rebuttal saying CPI reporter Chris Hamby was the engine behind the story for months before ABC entered the investigation and in long stretches when ABC was working on other things. In March, the Harvard Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting was awarded to Chris Hamby, Ronnie Greene, Jim Morris and Chris Zubak-Skees of CPI and Matthew Mosk, Brian Ross and Rhonda Schwartz of ABC News. Next month, the White House Correspondents’ Association will honor “The Center for Public Integrity, in partnership with ABC News.” On Wednesday, they received an award from the Society of Professional Journalists. Television news organizations are excluded from the Pulitzer Prizes, which honor newspaper and digital reporting.
Fox News to Debut Daytime Ensemble Show (TVNewser)
Fox News has announced plans for a new noon ET show called Outnumbered that will feature a rotating ensemble of four female hosts and one male host. The show will debut April 28. VarietyAs part of the show’s premiere, the daytime program Happening Now, co-anchored by Jon Scott and Jenna Lee, will become two one-hour blocks airing weekdays at 11 a.m. ET and 1 p.m. ET. Previously, Happening Now ran from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. HuffPost Fox News’ weekend anchor Harris Faulkner and Fox Business Network’s Sandra Smith will be two of the rotating panelists, along with appearances from the Five‘s Kimberly Guilfoyle and Andrea Tantaros. The name,Outnumbered, is likely a nod to the one male host, who will change every day. Deadline Hollywood During each segment, panelists will examine the top news of the hour, and deliberate the leading pop culture and relationship issues dominating the headlines that day.
Discovery Communications Out of Running for U.K.’s Channel 5 (WSJ)
U.S. cable network-owner Discovery Communications Inc. is no longer in the running to acquire the U.K.’s Channel 5, according to a person familiar with the matter, as the auction of the over-the-air broadcaster moves to a final round. Bloomberg Discovery offered about £350 million ($588 million) for the broadcaster owned by Richard Desmond’s Northern & Shell, said the person, who wasn’t authorized to speak publicly and asked not to be identified. The TV station that airs Britain’s Crime Capitals and Celebrity Big Brother may sell for more than £400 million, the person said. Reuters Discovery, which has been aggressively expanding outside of the United States in television, had been in talks with British Sky Broadcasting Group, the satellite pay-TV service controlled by Rupert Murdoch, over a possible joint bid, according to media reports. It was unclear on Wednesday whether BSkyB was still involved in the process. THRDiscovery Communications, led by CEO David Zaslav, was considered a frontrunner in the auction given its strong financial position and other recent acquisitions in Europe, including that of SBS in Scandinavia and a pending deal to take a majority stake in Eurosport International. However, Discovery executives have long emphasized their financial discipline, saying they are only willing to make acquisitions that make financial sense for the company. With the current Channel 5 owner eyeing a price tag of more than $1.1 billion, some industry observers have wondered whether any suitor will end up offering that much and whether the sale could be scrapped.
SCOTUSblog Denied Senate Press Credentials, May Sue (SCOTUSblog)
Last week, the Senate Press Gallery denied SCOTUSblog’s application for a press pass and advised that it would refuse to renew the credential it had previously granted when it expires next month. Though SCOTUSblog succeeded in obtaining a Senate press pass last year, the court declined to recognize the credential, explaining that it would instead review its credentialing policy. HuffPost The Supreme Court has never credentialed SCOTUSblog, although Lyle Denniston, a veteran Supreme Court reporter who writes for the site, currently has a credential for his work with Boston public radio station WBUR. For now, SCOTUSblog can request public seats for cases, but cannot send another reporter in Denniston’s place.

The Hollywood Reporter’s annual “Most Powerful People in New York Media” list is out, and it features some staples (Roger Ailes) and some newcomers. The list, now in its fourth year, honors “The men and women who shape the media message and interpret the sweep of the culture,” according to THR. Major Garrett to Interview Obama, Biden (Politico / Dylan Byers on Media)
CBS News’ Major Garrett is scheduled to talk to President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in a joint interview, the network announced on Wednesday. The interviews will be conducted in Oakdale, Pa., where Obama and Biden are speaking about $600 million in federal job training investments. Garrett, the network’s chief White House correspondent, will also interview Obama separately. Both interviews were scheduled to air on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Google Misses Q1 Earnings Estimates, Stock Drops More Than 5 Percent (Mashable)
Sometimes $15 billion just isn’t enough. Google reported earnings of $6.27 per share on revenue of $15.42 billion for the first quarter, missing Wall Street estimates for earnings of $6.44 on revenue of $15.52 billion. Revenue excluding traffic acquisition costs for the quarter was $12.19 billion, coming in below analyst estimates for around $12.25 billion. Both classes of Google stock — GOOG and GOOGL — declined by a little more than 5 percent in after hours trading following the earnings report. Re/code Google’s stock was down about 6 percent in the first 30 minutes after the numbers hit. CNNMoney Of particular concern was a 9 percent drop in payments from marketers per ad on Google sites. The challenge for Google is convincing marketers to pay as much for mobile ads as they do for desktop ads, a task that’s become increasingly pressing as Web usage shifts to smartphones.

Fresh off a Pulitzer win for his investigative work at the Center for Public Integrity, Chris Hamby is jumping ship to join Mark Schoofs’ investigations desk at BuzzFeed. Hamby will be based in Washington, D.C. Mediaite Schoofs began courting Hamby several months ago. BuzzFeed denied they went after Hamby following his Pulitzer this week.
The View to Reunite All 11 Co-Hosts for Barbara Walters Farewell (The Wrap)
For the first time, all 11 co-hosts of ABC’s The View — past and present — will share the same stage, live, to bid adieu to the show’s creator Barbara Walters. The reunion will take place on Thursday, May 15. Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Joy Behar, Debbie Matenopoulos, Lisa Ling, Rosie O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck will join Sherri Shepherd, Jenny McCarthy, Whoopi Goldberg and Walters for the goodbye show. The following day, after more than five decades on the air, Walters will say farewell to daily television with her final co-host appearance on The View.

Meaghan Murphy has been named the new executive editor of Good Housekeeping. Murphy comes to the magazine from Self, where she most recently served as deputy editor. Former White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers is heading to Warner Bros. as head of corporate communications. Myers will join the studio in September, succeeding nine-year WB vet Susan Fleishman. Myers comes to Warner Bros. after most recently serving as managing director of Washington, D.C.-based PR firm Glover Park. She was the first woman to serve as press secretary during Bill Clinton’s first term in the White House. Since then she’s been a contributing editor to Vanity Fair, co-host of the CNBC talk show Equal Time and served as a consultant to the Warner Bros. TV-produced NBC drama The West Wing.
Seeking Young Viewers, Pivot Bolsters Its Original Programming (NYT)
A small, somewhat new cable channel is wooing additional viewers and advertisers by beefing up its original programming, including what would be its first original scripted series. The channel, Pivot, was introduced in July with the backing of Participant Media. To increase its appeal, Pivot is turning to names that would be familiar to millennials in realms like politics, Broadway, Hollywood and corporate social responsibility. For instance, Meghan McCain, a daughter of senator John McCain, will be one of three hosts of TakePart Live, a late-night talk show that the channel will move to 10 p.m. in May. The Hollywood star power is to be supplied by the cast members of the channel’s first original scripted series, Fortitude, a 12-episode drama set in the Arctic. The cast includes Stanley Tucci, Luke Treadaway, Michael Gambon and Christopher Eccleston.

Tubi TV Free Internet Video Service Launches With 20,000 Shows And Movies (Variety)
AdRise, a content distribution and advertising startup, is launching Tubi TV, a free, ad-supported video-on-demand service stocked with 20,000 licensed TV shows and movies. The company is positioning Tubi TV as a free service that complements subscription VOD services like Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime Instant Video, and with a bigger selection than other ad-supported services like Sony Pictures Television’s Crackle. However, there may not be a lot on the service that lure massive numbers of consumers, even though it’s free. Most of Tubi TV’s library, from some 120 partners, will be unfamiliar to U.S. audiences.
