(A Sprinkling of Things we Think you Ought to Know...) *Maher's show is no cake-walk: Former RNC Spokesman Doug Heye braved being the lone Republican panel member on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" Friday night. He remarked over Twitter several times how "tough" the experience was. All in all, he appears to have held his own on the show, with even Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) giving him a sympathetic nod. "I don't think this is your audience," the senator quipped to him during the show. *A funny thing April Fools' is. A reader wrote in to tell us that politicians disparaging Politico was a joke (based on an item we ran on April Fools' Day) and that Rep. Ben Quayle (R-Ariz.) hadn't insulted the publication last week at the Radio-TV Association's Congressional Correspondents' Dinner. We do love our readers, especially the all-out loyal one who worries that we fell for our own joke. Sure, we like to laugh at ourselves, but we reported the truth -- Quayle really did bash Politico in his dinner speech, calling it the "worst" publication in history. That day, he tried to make nice through his press secretary, Richard Cullen, who used to work for Politico. On Friday we offered fake reports of other candidates razzing Politico during their races -- this was an April Fools' spoof. (At right: Politico Enemy #1: Quayle.) *Google to party at Glover's house: Lobbyist Juleanna Glover assures there will be "yes, lots" of journos at her home on April 9 for the Vital Voices/Google event. The event, which starts at 7:30 p.m. and is by invitation only, is to toast the women at the 2011 Global Leadership Awards.
