> UPDATE: Tammy Haddad responds. She wrote FishbowlDC from Manhattan, saying, “I applaud Michael’s use of social media. He is a cutting edge editor!”
Michael Clements, Washington Life Magazine’s Executive Editor, has created a place on Foursquare for D.C.’s public relations grande dame Tammy Haddad’s hair.
You read that right – her hair. Haddad has a grey stripe running through the bang area of her locks and Clements decided it was fitting and funny to highlight it. He called the place on Foursquare “Tammy Haddad’s Hair Streak.” There is also a venue on there called “Tammy Haddad Brunch,” which references her annual brunch always set on the weekend of the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
Clements wrote on Twitter, “Like @foursquare&media? Sign in2 Tammy Haddad’s Hair Streak.” When asked if this was intended to be humorous, Clements replied by e-mail, “Really? Lol. Totally lighthearted. Tammy is great. She’s the ultimate media connector and professional and she gets the place of technology… It’s a digital / social media homage to her power and cool hair. I like registering unique venues. I registered the great rift valley in kenya this summer. Maybe I should register the Fish Bowl? [sic]”
As many of you know, Foursquare allows you to check into certain places and become mayor of that place if you’ve checked in most. Last night a number of journos dining with Clements at Blue Duck Tavern decided to check in as Haddad’s Hair Streak.
The Washington Examiner‘s Nikki Schwab did so, but says it was meant to be funny and lighthearted. So did Human Events‘s Emily Miller. Others at dinner did not partake in the hair stripe Foursquare “humor.”
We sought reaction from Haddad and so far have received no response.
